What should I wear for my paragliding jump? What clothes should I choose?

The choice of clothing for your paragliding flight will depend on the season, of course, but also on the temperature of the day. As a general rule, when you take your first flight in a paragliding in Annecy you need to equip yourself as you would for a short mountain hike. Choose the right clothes: trousers (or shorts in summer), a Gore-Tex windproof jacket for the upper body, and trainers (or mountain boots). And don't forget your sunglasses, which will give you good protection against the wind and make your flight all the more enjoyable.

Is it cold when paragliding?

It's always much cooler in the air when you're paragliding than on the ground. This is because the glider is constantly moving through the air at a speed of around 35km/h. This means that there is always a relative headwind. What's more, weather conditions permitting, the pilot will gain maximum altitude, and the paraglider can easily climb to 2,500m! And at that height the temperature is much lower! In mid-season and in winter, you can also add a small fleece under the jacket for extra comfort and to avoid landing in the cold.

Which shoes to choose?

In Annecy we are fortunate to offer tandem paragliding flights with turf take-offs. The risk of slipping is therefore much lower than on a natural grass take-off, but it is still preferable to opt for trainers or hiking boots with thick soles and crampons. That way there's no risk of slipping and you'll be able to run easily to pick up speed when you take off.

A few more tips on what to wear:

If you opt for a long flight (Prestige, Cross or Cross++), you may want to bring a pair of windproof gloves and a neck warmer. Because when you fly for a long time at altitude, you're quickly prone to chafing and cold draughts on the neck.
In summer, you can also take sun cream with you, because with the relative wind, you never feel the sun on your face, and yet when you gain altitude, it shines really brightly.

Can I take a camera in the air?

Each monitor is equipped with a wide-angle GoPro-type camera, and will take several photos and videos of you above Lake Annecy (subject to favourable aerological conditions). We'll transfer them directly to your phone after the flight. So that you can enjoy your first paragliding experience at 100%, this service is included in all our flight packages. However, it is perfectly possible to take your camera with you to take photos in flight, as long as you are able to attach it. You are entirely responsible for it.

An adventurer and polyglot, I've been travelling the world with my paraglider since 2001, particularly in winter, to indulge my passion. After scouring Southern Europe and Morocco, I've been to Nepal, South Africa, Colombia and Brazil on several occasions... but now it's time to go to Mexico that I spend the winter, where I accumulate flights (around 200 hours), so that I can devote more time to our students/passengers during the season in Annecy. I'm also the developer/webmaster of our new site, waiting for yours! 😉
