The SIV paragliding course in Annecy
The driving course (or SIV course) allows you to work on flight incident manoeuvres or advanced piloting in a setting designed for safety. This is an area above Lake Annecy with a boat and a safety waistcoat. It also ensures a safe landing if the pilot reaches the ground under his reserve parachute.
Prerequisites :
Progression is adapted to each person's level and expectations. For your safety, you will be asked to validate certain paragliding piloting skills before taking part in certain manoeuvres. The instructor reserves the right not to tackle certain manoeuvres with the pilot if he does not feel that he has acquired sufficient skills.
The SIV course can be approached at very different levels. However, for organisational reasons, it is necessary to be autonomous in paragliding for take-off backsail and frontsail, as well as for landing. The level of initial pilot's licence is required.
On the programme:
The SIV /Pilotage course takes place over 2 or 3 days. Take-offs are at La Forclaz, and the landing area is on the edge of the Doussard reserve. Here are somehe following are examples of manoeuvres that can be covered during the course (depending on the level of each participant):
- Pitch and roll
- Dynamic bends
- The 360° descent
- Frontal and asymmetric collapses and their consequences (autorotation)
- Wings and wings over
- Avoidance manoeuvres
- Dropouts at B
- Stalls and backflips
- Tendrils

Sam has already been with the team for 10 years!
He went through years of being more of a crossover pilot, then years of being more of an aerobatics pilot, interspersed with a few bivouac flights. In short, he enjoys all aspects of paragliding. He has taken part in the Roq'Acro, the Redbull Element, the Transdrômoise and other cross-country competitions.
As part of the Grands Espaces team, he is in charge of the 'piloting' courses, also known as SIV. His calm demeanour and ability to listen will put you at ease as you prepare for the exercises. Pragmatic and rigorous, he will help you to unlock the successive levels to reach your goal in complete safety.
FAQ paragliding courses SIV & Pilotage :
Every paraglider has to compulsory third-party insurance which covers any damage caused to others. As an EFVL-FFVL approved school, our students must also take out a licence, which includes this compulsory insurance. This insurance is valid throughout the calendar year, and is renewed in the autumn.
>> SIMPLIFIED VERSION for STAGE INITIATION
There are several options available to you, depending on how much you practice:
- FFVL student insurance for 9 days : Ideal for your first paragliding course, you will only be covered in a FFVL-approved school. This insurance will not cover you if you wish to fly solo, i.e. outside a paragliding school. Days can be taken non-consecutively.
- FFVL annual student insurance : affordable annual package, which only covers you when you are supervised by an FFVL structure. However, if you want to fly on your own during the year, you can top up your cover and take out annual "Flying" insurance.
- FFVL "First-time licence holder" insurance The FFVL is offering you a special price for your very first annual licence. Obviously not renewable. You'll be insured all year round, for solo or supervised flights.
- FFVL "Flying" insurance: This is the classic annual insurance for independent pilots.
Note: each time you take out a licence, you will need to choose a paragliding club to join. Take a paragliding club near you so you can play your part!
